Provisional data shows Lake Michie and Little River Reservoir continue to climb toward 100% full, with more rain likely in the days ahead.

Report: Drought Status in South Durham Eased by Rains

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report, released Thursday, shows that much of Durham County has shifted to moderate drought levels thanks to July rainstorms.

That's an improvement from the severe drought that sparked a shift to Stage 2 water restrictions in June.

Durham Water Supply Rises, But Stage 2 Rules Remain
As of July 27, Durham Water Management reported 197 total days of water supply.

City of Durham provisional data from July 29 indicates that our source water reservoir levels are climbing toward 100% full:

  • Lake Michie, currently at 332.81 feet mean sea level, is considered full at 341.
  • Little River Reservoir, currently at 342.65 feet msl, is considered full at 355.

The National Weather Service forecast points to a 70% chance of showers on Sunday and Monday, with more rain possible throughout the week.
