Durham City Council took two closely watched land-use actions Monday night, unanimously approving a temporary moratorium on new data center approvals and then, after hours of public comment and debate, narrowly advancing the proposed Enclave at Little Creek development near George King Road.

The two issues drew some of the evening’s strongest reactions, but they landed very differently: the data center measure passed without opposition, while Enclave at Little Creek split the council 4-2.

The data center item came first, and by the time council voted, members had made clear that Durham wants more time before allowing large-scale facilities tied to data center processing and cryptocurrency mining.
