[SoDu Alert] Durham Schools Staff Data May Have Been Breached

Hackers apparently didn't get access to sensitive student data during the recent breach of PowerSchool. But they might've snared Social Security numbers belonging to Durham Public Schools staff.

On Jan. 29, PowerSchool started contacting individuals whose information was breached and has enlisted credit-reporting agency Experian to provide free identity protection and credit monitoring services to current and former students and educators.

"PowerSchool is doing this regardless of whether an individual's Social Security number was exfiltrated," DPS officials told families and staff in a statement issued Monday evening. Experian is expected to send direct email notifications to affected individuals (or their parent/guardian, as applicable) when contact information is available.
