[SoDu Crime Watch] Six serious-charge arrests added to the weekly crime watch

The latest roundup includes six arrests on serious charges and 85 public incident reports. What stood out near you?

This week's South Durham Crime Watch adds something new: arrests involving serious charges.

Southpoint Access identified six arrest entries recorded in its coverage area from Sept. 11-17 involving charges such as first-degree murder, kidnapping, assault by strangulation, and discharging a firearm into occupied property. Those arrests are listed separately from 85 public incident reports at 66 address blocks.

The two sets of records aren't interchangeable. An incident report reflects an allegation or reported event. An arrest record shows that police took someone into custody on a listed charge. Neither establishes guilt, and the arrest location may not be where the alleged crime occurred.

The lower total shouldn't be read as proof that crime fell. The Sept. 17 data appears incomplete. The citywide export contained 15 records for that date, but 13 were arrest entries and only two were incident reports. Just one of those incidents fell in the South Durham coverage area, and it was recorded at 8:06 a.m.

Reports can take several days to appear in the Police-to-Citizen portal, and they can be added or reclassified later.
