A proposed UDO change would make it easier for Durham’s governing boards to impose or extend development moratoria. After that, commissioners on June 9 will take up rezonings and annexations tied to Page Road, downtown’s 505 W. Chapel Hill site, Sherron Road, Cheek Road, and Wake Forest Highway.

Durham city leaders want an easier path to longer-term moratoria against projects like massive data centers, so they're proposing a rule change that would take the Planning Commission out of its review role.

That board takes up the proposal, as well as several rezonings and annexations, when it next meets on June 9.

City Council this month adopted a 60-day moratorium against data centers, but members wanted to go perhaps as long as two years.
