Durham Volleyball Battle Benefits Boys & Girls Clubs

The Battle for Bull City returns Aug. 21 as volleyball teams from Duke and North Carolina Central universities compete for the second year in a game to raise funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Durham and Orange Counties.

The event got its start thanks to an idea hatched by the head coaches of the volleyball teams – Jody Brown from NCCU and Jolene Nagel from Duke University.

It’s planned for 6 p.m. at the McDougald-McLendon Arena on NCCU’s campus.

Proceeds benefit the after-school programs that affect more than 500 youth each year.

“At the Clubs, we seize every opportunity to have our members brush up against excellent role models, leaders, and people who are pursuing their dreams, such as these college student athletes. And we know representation matters,” said Andrew Borresen, director of resource development for the BGCDOC. “At the Clubs, we subscribe to the belief that in order to ‘be it’ one day, we can help our members ‘see it’ first. We thank the Duke and NCCU Volleyball programs for using their platforms to reinvest in the next generation of local kids, serve as such worthy role models, and bring attention to our youth development mission at BGCDOC.”
