The Parktown Food Hub on Friday faced "an urgent need," according to a post on the nonprofit food pantry's Facebook page.

"We currently do not have the non-perishable foods needed to meet the needs of our clients," Parktown Food Hub officials stated in the post. "Food pantries across America are struggling to meet rapidly increasing food insecurity, and our empty shelves reflect that challenge on a local level."

Those who can contribute should provide the following shelf-stable foods:

  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Canned chicken and tuna
  • Canned tomato sauce
  • Canned fruits and vegetables

Data from Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap report in 2025 indicates that more than 607,000 people are food insecure in the 34 counties served by the larger Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, including Durham.

The Parktown Food Hub is located at 5123 Revere Rd.
